  DISCLOSURES
  P.C. - Nothing to disclose.
  N.S. - Nothing to disclose.

 PURPOSE/AIM

1. To review cerebellar gross anatomy, basic cerebellar neuronal cell types, and white matter connections 2. To discuss basic embryology of the cerebellum to help understand congenital malformations of the posterior fossa 3. To explain clinicopathologic manifestations of cerebellar disease with an emphasis on MR imaging

 CONTENT ORGANIZATION

•Gross anatomy of the cerebellum with pathologic specimens •Relationship of the cerebellum to the rest of the motor system via white matter connections (Diffusion tensor imaging and tractography) •Basic embryology of the cerebellum •Three types of clinical manifestations of cerebellar disease o Diminished muscle tone o Ataxia o Disorders of gait and equilibrium •Review of MR imaging in normal and diseased states •Future directions and summary

 SUMMARY

The major teaching points of this exhibit are: 1. Knowledge of precise neuroanatomy aids comprehension of the clinical manifestations of cerebellar disease. 2. Three major clinical manifestations of cerebellar disease include diminished muscle tone, ataxia and disorders of gait and equilibrium. 3. Causes of cerebellar dysfunction include toxins, infection, vascular, tumor, and congenital malformations.
