1- To review the spectrum of CT features of gastrointestinal lymphoma from the pharynx to rectum
2- To investigate whether or not CT features can aid in diagnosing lymphomatous infiltration from primary epithelial neoplasms of bowel
3- To learn about the disease as well as treatment related bowel complications commonly encountered in our practice
CONTENT ORGANIZATION
Lymphomas are a diverse group of neoplasms; NHL unlike Hodgkin's
disease is widespread at presentation with non-contiguous
pattern of involvement and extra-nodal spread. The incidence of NHL is reported to have increased but with a better survival rate due to accurate pathologic categorization and improved initial staging.
CT plays a vital role in initial staging. Gastrointestinal tract (GIT) is the most common extra-nodal site for NHL; it is involved in 5-10% of patients at initial present
SUMMARY
1-Secondary bowel involvement is common in lymphoma.
2-Bowel infiltration is confidently identified on CT without the need for formal GI contrast studies in most cases.
3-Commonly encountered cases in our practice are indistinguishable from the primary bowel malignancies, bulky nodal disease at remote stations favours lymphoma.
4- Bowel related complications include obstruction, perforation, intussuception and aneurysmal dilatation.
