PURPOSE/AIM
1.To describe an appropriate pathway for imaging the jaundiced patient.
2.To describe the advantages, limitations and pitfalls of various modalities.
3.To elegantly demonstrate the rare and common causes of jaundice.
CONTENT ORGANIZATION
We will illustrate a wide range of causes of jaundice with reference to the literature.
•Classification of the different types of jaundice: obstructive and non obstructive.
•Causes of obstructive jaundice: intra-hepatic, supra-pancreatic and pancreatic.
•Advantages, limitations and pitfalls of different imaging modalities
•Illustrative examples of common and rare causes of jaundice
SUMMARY
The major teaching points of this exhibit are:
1.To understand the causes and classification of jaundice
2.To appreciate the indications and limitations of imaging modalities.
3.To be able to produce a rational algorithm for imaging the jaundiced patient.
